It’s Anime ABC Challenge – Railgunfan75’s

When someone saids anime to me. You must tell me all !!

Finally a challenge that I can compile some of my favourite anime all in one post. No-one tagged me but I wanted to do this for a while now!~

Weekend is here and I want to talk anime favourites!

I don’t know if I ever will get to talk about every single anime I’ll ever watch, a lingering doubt that grows with every day. That’s a sad realisation but I’ll keep going on with the anime talk always.  . . well because I freaking (think of swear word here instead) love.

Fellow blogger Railgunfan 75 came up with a really cool anime challenge picking our anime favourites in 26 alphabet. I wrote a long time ago about picking anime favourites, how I can’t do top lists like I use to, this challenge is a better comprise. But this could be very tricky. . . *cries anyway*. Favourites pile up over watching anime for ten years, you like different series for vastly individual reasons that is why this is a challenge.

The Rules (copy and paste lazy person)

  1. Pick a favorite series/movie for each letter of the alphabet. For titles starting with “a” “an” or “the” use the first letter of the next word of the title.
  2. Since many titles have multiple names based on the language that you are using please pick one language for the entire list (Use all English titles or all Japanese titles) and let the readers know which language you will be using. If a title has the same name regardless of the language then it can be used in any list.
  3. If you don’t have a title that fits under a particular letter, you can name another favorite from a different letter in it’s place, just indicate which letter spot you are using for that series. This can be done up to three times. If you can’t fill a spot then you can leave it blank. No more than 26 total series are allowed.
  4. Including a picture for each series is encouraged.
  5. Share who tagged you for this challenge and nominate 3 more to try it themselves and include links to their blogs.
  6. Just have fun with this challenge. I wanted to get everyone to share some favorite series and to spread the word about awesome blogs!

Now it’s time to gush! hehe

A is for Amanchu

amanchu25212bsoanime2b2

A series that changed my entire opinion on slice of life anime showing how additional the genre to another adds a different dynamic and how versatile it is. Two girls friendship melded with aquatic visuals and anxiety theme focus that brings such serenity. Amanchu to date is still my favourite slice of anime, the perfect drown out to the negative.

B is for Beyblade

n1668-2gdy5wkoxc6oMy cherished childhood right here beating Sailor Moon and Dragonball z. Glorious days of my Saturday mornings and taping over that same VHS tape till it was unusable of missed episodes. I never got to see all of season one and two. Season 3 ended up being my favourite so hope to see others in full sometime soon. People clearly underestimate how cool spinning tops with celestial beasts are, this series make it cool. Bet you didn’t know America held their own Beyblade tournaments and I’d watch them online, so beyblade is cool to you now? right?

C is for Chivalry of a Failed Knight

nx21092-1nml6tdngmbq

I had a lot of C favourites, it was hard. This series was an unexpected favourite to be added. The better of 2015 divide between Asterisk War and this. For within it’s genre and troupes use you actually got a solid romance build up and male among a harem that chose a girl. We know how the harem formula usually turns out. I love this purely for Ikki and Stella alone, all the convincing I needed to buy a physical copy.

D is for DAKAICHI! -I’m being harassed by the sexiest man of the year
bx101381-zawz7kizuzvr
A boys love series going into my top 5 favourites by episode 3, no seriously it was that quick. I’d happily rewatch this anytime. I could have chosen a more sensible choice but I would be denying enjoyment factor here. Lita likes Yaoi, I just don’t talk about it a lot because.   .   . some indulgences don’t need to be vocalised sometimes. But one of the funniest within genre I’ve come across!

E is for Escaflowne

bx182-yzztzwmzcsff

Well this choice is a no brainer since this 90s dearest of mine has been mentioned no end of times here. Escaflowne has been a long time favourite despite the ending that irks me for that extra top off happiness. This series are roots to my love of old anime and wishes to find my teen show favourites Hercules and Xena themes in a different format. Showed me there are many anime that are “more than what they seem”, appearing fantasy series but complexity themes woven within. A very special favourite always.

F is for Full Metal Panic

bx71-fi08vs7xnbmw

F had a lot of favourites from my ani list, Fushigi Yugi, Fafner. Another hard choice but the metal will win all the time. One of the first ten anime I ever watched. Full Metal definitely can see myself watching in my rocking chair of a military maniac who thinks he can solve everything through military means. The flow of action, comedy and main characters relationship progress is why a rewatch happens least once a year. My hope for franchise it will get the conclusion it deserves psst. . . season five we will be waiting for!

G is for Ghost Hunt

bx1571-rgwsfopdzhzs

It’s becoming a running tradition every October (influence of halloween even though it’s non existent in aussie land) I rewatch this dear favourite. A series guaranteed to make you squirm a bit along with a narcissists ghost hunter  who has an answer for everything. I love the episodic approach for each new case introduced and if anything this anime is brilliant at is: suspense factor. That ominous atmosphere it’s there! Ghost Hunt is a grand choice of October time !

H is for Haikyu!

Every letter from now on is getting harder I notice on my ani list. What can we say here. . . freaking fantastic anime and the most dam enjoyable time you can have. What I love most about Haikyu! is how characterisation is utilised, were not just rooting for underdogs but the opposing teams. The draw in to rooting for others and not just Karasuno. A sports anime full of nothing heart punches !

I is for Inuyasha

bx249-yn54jzritggz

197 episodes seems daunting but I can’t think of a better binge fest time. I’m surprised how underestimated this early 2000 show is, Inuyasha was one of first three anime I was introduced to. It’s been always very special and continues to be even ten years later. This series has so much to offer, a scheming fend of a villain, plenty of action, progressive love triangle ensured to irk you and demons, spirits everywhere. The filler episodes are super fun for in between madness, you wont be bored !!

J is for Jubei the Ninja Girl

A 90s series flying under many people’s radars, full of that old school comedy and eccentric characters with flare. This anime never takes itself seriously and when it does, packing an unexpected emotion punch when you least expect. Far from about a girl who turns into this badass samurai and fighting a 300 year old enemy, just a fraction of what is offered. Jubei is a great, fun time and stupid funny!! The comedy best attribute.

K is for Kaleido Star

nx427-toxjdezm20vt

One of kind series centred on a circus theme surely to bring a smile. A theatrical circus performance you’ll not forget. Kaleido Star has always been a one of kind series and filled with nothing but the most joy. No anime has quite touched me on the themes of following your dreams quite like this one. Especially through main protagonist Sora. An adorable goofball to follow her journey to joining the stage, she’s dreamt for so long. Dreams of a childhood journey all inspiring and uplifiting.

L is for La Corda D’Oro: Primo Passo

bx1579-p7ilcx8zneuo

Music anime should be experienced anime style through manga is just weird to me. This music anime was just a whole lot of fun watching with a flare of magic thrown in there. Kahoko given a magical violin by fairy, where she can play anything with ease but realising the joy in working hard for something. A fun musical experience and pretty boys to go with it.

M is for Munto

1174

There was no way I was going to leave out this very special favourite.  Munto Tv lead me to my Kyoto Animation fever problem and an everlasting friendship. I am truly obsessed after nearly 9 years, you know creating even a facebook page for it. Nearly forgot to mention fuelling my love of the unknown anime aspect, I’ve talked about this on my blog so many times, but if just to get you to check it out. It was Kyoto Animation first debut work! Watch Tv series instead of OVAs!

N is for Nagi no Asukara

bx16067-cfx0g435plob

Nagi made it into my top ten favourite anime pretty fast. Aquatic visuals that blew me away and left my emotions drowned out. Has the most complex not love triangle I’ve seen and making my questions the level of serious thinking these young people are shouldering. It’s the most beautiful anime I’ve ever watched and always makes me want to go swimming or just be near the water. It has quarter of my anime heart!

O is for Ookami-san and her seven companions

In no way is this an inspiration to snow white and the seven dwarfs, it tries to be but fails. What it is this series is good time and hysterical. A student council doing favours for the student body and favour returned. This series is an interesting mix of crazy and comedy with very fun bunch of odd ball characters. I love it’s interesting take of random, it’s just a freaking cute show !!

P is for Pretear

Among the magical girl genre Pretear is special gem among. Not just about a girl who becomes a powered up princess to save the world. The series has a serious take on mental health on themes of loneliness and anxiety. There is a great mix of light and dark reflected within this series along with cute romance and hilarious cast of characters. I am so glad I was introduced to this long time favourite, encouraged me to expand my tastes within the magical girl space.

R is for Rurouni Kenshin

Where my Samurai love began and I can’t seem to get enough. Ah Kenshin another binge worth either in anime or manga form.  The best story on redemption I’ve ever seen and focus on Kenshin character makes this whole series solid. I don’t know what else is there to say here, a truly awesome series I’ll continually come back! Season 3 filler hmm I don’t know about that.

S is for Snow White With The Red Hair

Ahhhh S was the killer choosing from, I have a lot of favourites beginning with S it seems. I could not look over that this was a anime that I would not accept to have on DVD, ONLY BLURAY was a must. A romance favourite quickly it became and couple that is every girls fairytale itself. The level of admiration and respect both Shirayuki and Zen had me addicted fast here. Just a absolute delight to invest myself in and forget about the world at anytime. Preferably on a spring day!

T is for Tales From EarthSea

I’ve always had a soft spot for this Ghibli film and noticed far from a favourite for many. It was very interesting to find out was directed by Gotou Miyazaki son of Hayao Miyazaki. This film has a heavy storyline compared to other films and overcast atmosphere to it. Definitely is not a perfect film but I loved for what it was and always come back to at some point. I have a strangle pull with this film and can’t help love.

U is for Utakoi

I found Chihayafuru twin watch. Ever since watching Chihayafuru, I have been fascinated with the 100 poems and meaning behind them. What do you know there was a anime waiting to give me a glimpse. This is a beautifully poetic presentation with episodic approach on some of poems. The oppressed free will women suffered and loving freely was beyond complex for the time period. Surprisingly was funny at same point, truly intriguing gem find.

V is for Violet Evergarden

By far most beautifully animated thing Kyoto has brought us. I thought I couldn’t bring myself to rewatch but I decided I can and must own this on bluray. You should only buy this on bluray only, that way the sob fest will be extra good.

W is for Witchblade

You nearly thought it would be Weathering With You. Ah I was so close to picking but the soft spot I have for this over takes. A adaptation from Witch blade comics, looking past the horny, busty battles of females and high fan service levels. What surprised me was underlying struggle for a mother and daughter. Beneath was a woman harnessing a dangerous power all for one thing she had left to hang onto. This series make me weep every rewatch, don’t judge for the ecchi solely!

X is for Xam’d: Lost Memories

I  need to rewatch this series again real soon but an incredibly intriguing series X’am was. It was a slow burner at a few points but that was apart of involving story. An extra surprise for an adorable romance to manifest out of nowhere, done by bones, them guys know how to draw me in with their Sci-fi flare. A untapped gem that deserves more recognition.

Y is for Yuri On Ice

I had a choice between a hot hentai josei, 90s show or this. I do need to rewatch this but I’m sure it will be thoroughly enjoyable as the first time was. The popularity and hype around guys on ice is true my friends. This series signifies a lot of meaning to different people, I really enjoyed for main characters. Hope to have it join my own collection !!

I was nearly there but didn’t have a Z but I’m surprised I had an anime to choose for rest of alphabet. If anything going through my ani list only tells me how much I put off so many shows for stupid or held back reasons. Now feels like the time more than ever to watch them. . . anyway This was a fun challenge to display just a fraction of anime favourites I have and talk about various series. I know I may never get to talk about every series unless I do more lists. I’ve been opened to a whole new perspective.

  1. I feel like heaps of folks missed ‘Xam’d’ or didn’t enjoy it maybe? I remember enjoying it plenty, even if I wanted a bit more screen time for the Hiruken Emperor in the lead up.

    Like

  2. I’m not going to lie… Imma steal this challenge later on. You’re that inspirational. I’ve also now added Kaleido Star and Pretear to my plan to watch list because I’m incredibly curious about both of them. I think I’ve heard about Pretear before from a different blogger, but Kaleido Star is brand new to me. So this was a really great list since I haven’t heard of tons of these titles, so it was really informative!

  3. Excellent picks! …except for Xam’d. 😉

For Z, have you ever seen Zoids?

…and I forget what it was at the moment, but there was a really good one that could fill the Q slot… I’ll probably remember it when I’m at work sometime. 😛
