Favourite Manga or Comic Book Series?
My smutty soul is going to jump out here sorry not sorry.
Smut manga is one of my indulgences that brings me great joy, we’re not using here ‘guilty pleasure’. It’s about indulgence people.
18 volume series Blackbird was my first lucky smut read, in my early manga days. Do you think it was appropriate my library had such a alluring title lying around for a sixteen year old? others might say no but I say YES!. One of my fastest read throughs and with good reason, this supernatural romance contained everything I loved in my Buffy Vampire Slayer loving days. Buffy was a huge impact veering me towards supernatural genre, discovering manga it was my hope to come across a title that contained all the things I loved in Buffy. Finding Blackbird in what I had hoped, my expectations were blown away, interesting, ever changing post to keep me engaged, drawing in supernatural contrasts and wait for it. . . ALL THE SMUT!!
Smut manga are not for everyone but this sub category is judged harshly, because for all the titles I’ve read alone. The smut levels are varied from heavily graphic raw to the tamest kisses, don’t assume the next time someone tells you “All smut contains just heavy explicit content”. Case of Blackbird steers into heavy explicit but that is my thing, the smut alone is not the sole pedestal but supernatural elements have heavy influence surrounding. A addicting, interesting plot full of twists. These are the pillars upholding this brilliant smut title above its stigma. In 2009 author Kanoko Sakurakoji won Shogakukan Manga Award for shojo in girls, that should say something for a smut title.
The problematic repetitive issue some people had with is protagonists Misao and Kyo relationship. Misao is saved by her childhood friend Kyo from a demon, discovering he is a tengu catches her off guard. Misao since young has been able to see demons, yokai unknown to others and discovers she is known as the ‘Senkai’. Sought by all demons, whichever one takes her virginity gains three game changing powers. Kyo vows to protect Misao from any demon pursers. Misao and Kyo relationship involves a lot of kiss and make up after the smallest disagreement or argument. Top of this Kyo’s strong hold over Misao is strong and is possessive. I’ve never seen this a hugely bad thing, Kyo deals with a lot as head of the tengu, in learning what Misao means to me truly. I’m all for the dude being protective as he is with Misao.
This is a flawed main couple but their undying love for one another is beautiful to me. Misao is thrown into the deep end so many times thanks to typical shojo troupes making her look pitiful and wish washy but all that befalls her. Misao always comes back to her love of Kyo to drive on, I feel sorry both of them Misao having no-one to rely on but Kyo in the supernatural space, In turn same for Kyo with all that transpiring in the series, without that love. I don’t think my love for this series would be as strong.
End of last year was the joyful time when my Black Bird boxset arrived as a birthday present to myself. (Book depositary stuffed up first order) For YEARS, I’ve wanted to own this favourite and seeing it on my shelf now makes me the happiest fan ever. If you are a smut fan looking for something grounding Black Bird has what you’re looking for The series has it’s problems, but it’s an indulgence, smut is not something I get sentimental over consent, explicit content etc unless it is really bad. I’ve never come across one that is turned me off yet. I like to enjoy my indulgence fiction!!
There now you now I’m a smut girl, if you could leave any smut recommendations then would be lovely, haha.
Are you a occasional or full on smut person in your manga, anime? Do you like a bit, not at all or the lot will? I’m a lot will do person hahahaha.

Personally, I don’t really mess with smut, ecchi, or hentai. However, an intriguing enough premise or good word about a series can usually get me to read just about anything (I regret reading some tbh). Blackbird sounds…interesting but how heavy do you mean when you said its heavy on smut because I just need to be prepared so I don’t run for the hills. Then again I that Emergence by ShindoL and that was a bit too over the top.

Thank you for your comment. I didn’t think someone would comment on this smut post haha. This story doesn’t make me want to run for the hill as at one point I thought ten count popular boys love manga was going too because that’s heavy explicit, seeing all the boy bits and yeh… using that as a comparison, its nowhere near that.
Heavy I mean in the respect of lots of lusty scenes when misao gets injured, kyo heals her. You don’t see detail of boobs and what not, haha not like In ten count. It’s a while before in black bird story misao and kyo reach to a point of being able to do it, other things prevent them. I have a friend who likes smut but she has a limit. She read black bird and loved it even though like I say in my post it has its problems, she commented kyo is possessive of his love of misao but there is strong backing of why he goes so far and the love is genuine.

Smut doesnt really do anything for me, I read past if as it it’s not even there. Usually it bores me, like I do not really get any satisfaction from it. Then again I also barely get inuendo or flirts. I am just not very much in that mindset. Even Yuri smut.. which resembles myself the most I guess doesnt do anything for me. Unless it’s more of a mental play.. I guess :p

Can’t say I’ve read any smut titles… Closest would probably be Grand Blue Dreaming, but it’s not really smutty per se. Just a lot of suggestive comments/scenarios as part of the overall over-the-topness of it’s antics.
It’s interesting that it’s not judgy or shaming though. One character is openly bisexual and rather freely on the prowl, and that’s just treated as who she is.
